Government is reconstituting a Local Content Committee to develop legislation that will assist in the development of home grown companies.
Energy Minister Nicole Olivierre, who made the announcement over the weekend at the 25th anniversary celebrations of In-Corr-Tech Limited, said during her tenure she will be championing the cause of local content.
“I will seek to transform our current local content policy into legislation to ensure that as a nation we receive maximum benefit from our energy sector,” she said.
The minister said In-Corr-Tech and other local companies will benefit from local content policy and will be able to take advantage of current global developments which present opportunities for diversification and enhancement of skills.
“As Minister of Energy, I give you my assurance that the ministry is committed to enhancing and expanding, revitalising and maximising the true potential of the energy sector,” she added.
“This will be done with a view to creating jobs to give service providers like In-Corr-Tech a greater chance of enhancing your current business potentials and widening your present market capability, creating additional employment and helping more people to have a better quality of life.”
In-Corr-Tech, an inspection and engineering service firm based at Cipero Road, San Fernando, provides a range of services to the energy and construction industries, including equipment inspection, non-destructive testing, design engineering, root cause failure analysis, quality control, equipment calibration and technical training. The company has more than 200 clients in T&T and the wider Caribbean and was the first local company to employ HSB Global Standards. Olivierre congratulated the company’s founder Zaid Khan for his vision and commitment to staff. She said companies like In-Corr-Tech will be given the opportunity of strengthening the economy of T&T through its own success.
Under Khan’s leadership, employees of the company benefit from interest free loans, pension, medical and housing plans, the minister said. During the celebrations 17 members of staff received awards for their service and dedication to duty. Among them was the company’s vice president of Administration and Operations, Saira Harricharan, the first employee Khan hired when he started In-Corr-Tech in 1990.
